Designing Safety: The herculean responsibilities of Apple designers
How Apple Designers Translate Everyday Security and Safety Concerns into Accessible, Life-Assisting Technologies
Apple designers are responsible for identifying security values and safety values for rules and behaviors that govern people's lives and designing them into accessible and meaningful solutions that can assist a person in their time of need.
This is a responsibility that is more herculean than one might believe as most people are incapable of identifying security or safety values for their own life and need someone to do it for them.
To demonstrate this, yesterday on Threads David Reinertson asked me to design security and safety exceptions using my audience as practice.
So I captured the security values of one of his posts.
A post that expressed security values for safety concerns about arguing on Threads while riding a bike.
In this case a dialog window is shown anytime a bicyclist on Threads gets into an argument on Threads while riding. It all took me less than 3 minutes to identify the security values of a safety concern from one of David’s posts…
What are some safety or security values in your own life that you wish an Apple designer would identify a solution for?
