Before the digital world was beautiful, it was Bill who taught the machine how to draw. With MacPaint, QuickDraw, and HyperCard, he didn’t just code, he made the screen feel human. He gave early software a soul.

So much of what we now call skeuomorphism…the warmth, the tactility, the metaphors that made the unfamiliar feel like home was seeded by his genius and hard work.

If you’ve ever used a lasso tool, or felt something real on a screen, you’ve touched his legacy.
